Bio
Phonz is a musician, songwriter, and producer. He began creating and producing music about 20 years ago. Born and raised in Pontiac MI, he’s played the violin, saxophone, drums, and guitar, but his primary love has been keys.
Phonz began his production journey in high school when he used his Casio keyboard to make tracks for his friends to sing and rap to. He grew up playing in church and had the opportunity to play and produce on live recordings. He also produced and co-wrote stage plays.
As music shifted, he became incredibly impacted by how creative people could be, even while limited or constricted. “We’re not limited by our canvas, just because we’re limited to our canvas.” Now it wasn’t about how big or how elaborate, but how intentionally creativity was expressed. His sound began to change, a bit grittier, a bit more distressed, but yet smooth and synth-ly beautiful. He creates from the reality that all of us are inherently creative and with focus and mastery can each contribute something to the human story that no one else can.
